Light, medium and dark roasts

Close-up of roasted coffee beans
Roast level is simply how light or dark the coffee beans are roasted. It can give you a helpful first clue about the flavor, especially when you’re standing in front of a shelf full of bags and aren’t sure what to choose. Light roasts often taste brighter, sometimes with fruity or floral notes. Medium roasts tend to feel balanced and sweet. Dark roasts are usually bolder, with deeper, bittersweet, toasty flavors. These are general tendencies, not strict rules.
Labels are not standardized, so one company's medium can look like another's light. Try a few and note what you like.
